Largest Garage Sale for Interior Decorators

Need Purple glass bottles?

The Rt 127 corridor garage sale is perfect for Staging, Decorating and just pure fun.

My husbands worst nightmare would be me going next year, with a large truck. Actually a fantasy for me. Hundreds of miles of treasure to try and capture.

The sale starts in Michigan and follows I 127 all the way to Alabama! HGTV usually has a “special” every year on what two of their reporters journey is like and what treasures they find.

You can buy everything there, even “Cracklins” and Hot Dogs. Pure Americana. From Purple glass bottles to old metal signs.

Look, even Darth Vader is a collector!

Anyone else out there a Garage sale Junkie? Perhaps next year we could caravan together with our 18 wheeler behind us to carry our “treasures”!

I’m going to plan to go to this unique sale next year….sshhh..don’t tell my husband.

Bookcases 101

It is not what you have but where you put it that matters when it comes to book cases.

Look at the bookcase before. We can tell by the contents this person loves books, so when they finish reading one it goes to the shelves.  We know they love their family because there are a dozen frames in this small bookcase. The glass figurines on parade on the top shelf take on the identity of visual clutter.

In book case after, all the same components exist but  are  placed in the book case with  thought and purpose. We teach “Bookcases as a Work of Art” in our classes.

The books are still there but instead of lining up one after the other they are placed on most shelves with some lying down and some standing .  Most of the family photos came back; this time however,  they are used to enhance the books and function as bookends or added interest. After talking with the homeowner only the most precious glass figurines returned  to the bookcase . Just because you own something doesn’t mean you need to always display it. We used the letter K but not both the K and the H.

With the addition of the large plate, wine rack,  pears and a plant, the bookcase went from a place to “sit stuff” to a point of interest. It now combines  dimension ,texture ,whimsy and the family ‘s personality is still intact. Look at your book case right now and what do you see?
